Centralized disaster
By Perry Willis

Today's Downsizer-Dispatch . . .

Please forward this to interested friends . . .

The federal government has fallen in love with large, centralized, databases containing the personal information of millions of Americans. We're told these databases will enhance our security, but anything that is large and highly centralized is also highly vulnerable, and an inviting target for terrorists.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall . . .

Terrorists attacked two of our biggest buildings: the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. They did not attack modest single family dwellings. Large, centralized databases, are the electronic equivalent of the Pentagon and the World Trade Center. They are an inviting target for economic terrorism, and other kinds of criminal mischief.

The truth of this was made painfully clear recently when a VA bureaucrat walked away with a large, centralized, database containing the personal information of millions of Veterans. Who has that database now? Criminals? Terrorists?

Will the next terrorist attack be financed by the personal credit cards of American veterans?

Now the federal government is building two more massive databases. One comes from the REAL ID Act, which would create a national identification system for the first time. The second comes from the National Animal Identification System -- NAIS -- which will electronically tag and track every farm animal in America, along with their owners. Both systems will be highly vulnerable to criminals and terrorists.

Throw a few more logs on the fire . . .

The federal government hasn't even been able to use its terrorist watch-list correctly. But now they want two more massive databases to mishandle. And recent reports suggest that the federal government's complicated medical privacy scheme has also been a fiasco. But failure is no obstacle to politicians and bureaucrats. They pay no price when their schemes fail. Instead, they exploit their own failures to justify more centralization. So what we need is . . .

Individual Americans must tell their elected Representatives to stop the move to centralization. Please tell your representatives that you want no more massive centralized databases. No REAL ID Act, and no NAIS either. You can do this by clicking on the following links.

Ask for the repeal of the REAL ID Act by clicking here.

Ask Congress to stop NAIS by clicking here.

Thank you.
