URGENT! Justin Amash needs your help NOW!
By Jim Babka

You have the House majority leadership on the run, don’t quit now. Push harder!

Quote of the Day:

“In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex.”

Dwight D. Eisenhower

Urgent action needed . . .

John Boehner’s Republicans had “A Pledge to America” back when they were the House minority. They’re “Pledge” promised to maintain an open amendment process once they regained control of the House. They’ve kept that promise...

...until now.

Majority Leader Boehner is breaking his promise in order to protect what he cares about most....

Intervention now, intervention tomorrow, intervention forever.

GOP leaders are worried that amendments to the defense spending bill could STOP FUNDING for...

  • NSA spying on the American people
  • The interventions in Syria and Egypt

On Monday evening, the House Rules Committee passed a rule that blocks any amendments — a “Closed Rule.”

Representative Justin Amash is leading the fight for an open amendment process. That way, his amendment to de-fund NSA spying on Americans can come to a vote.

And here’s the great news. Amash thinks his amendment could have the votes of more than 150 Democrats and nearly 100 Republicans. This means his amendment would pass! But we must defeat the “Closed Amendment Rule” first.

There are some Republicans ready to break ranks — to vote to defeat the Closed Rule. But not enough. And here’s where you come in...

It seems that only 7 more Republican votes are needed to defeat Boehner’s scurrilous Closed Rule.

Please help Justin Amash find those 7 votes!

Do this . . .

  • Go to
  • Look under your Downsize DC Toolbox in the right hand column. Find the link that says District Information. Click on it.
  • Check to see if your Rep. is a Republican. If so . . .
  • Call and tell your rep to vote against Boehner’s Closed Amendments Rule
  • Send an email to telling us you made the call

Why call? Because the vote on the Closed Rule could happen as early as 1:30 PM Tuesday (July 23).

And please take encouragement from these events . . .

This is happening because you’re pressure is working.

Republicans are breaking ranks with their Leadership over the NSA, Syria, and Egypt. These are ALL areas where DC Downsizers have pressured Congress. Your efforts do help!

And the action we’re asking you to take right now can be especially powerful. Please make your call now, especially if your Rep. is a Republican. A vote on the rule change may happen within hours.
