Why are you paying more at the pump?
By James Wilson

Quote of the Day: "Crude prices are extending gains ... with the Iranian situation again seen to be the main market driver." - Jack Pollard, analyst at Sucden Financial Research.

You are already paying for conflict with Iran -- at the pump. That's why I sent this letter to my Representative and Senators to stop these unnecessary tensions.

I encourage you to do the same, and you may borrow from or copy this letter...

Gas prices are soaring in part because of saber-rattling against Iran... http://tinyurl.com/6t9rpv3

* Even though Iran poses no security threat to the U.S.
* Even though the U.S. officials have repeatedly admitted "there is no hard evidence that Iran has decided to build a nuclear bomb." Source: NY Times http://tinyurl.com/6m99ory

Why must WE pay for the reckless actions of bloodthirsty politicians?

Not only are Americans tired of war, but even the Israeli people - the ostensible targets of hypothetical Iranian aggression - don't want war with Iran. Their common sense tells them "the costs would be high, and the benefits small or nonexistent." http://tinyurl.com/84q3g8y

They believe...

* The war could last for years.
* Hezbollah would join Iran in retaliating against Israel.
* The Iranian regime could be stregthened.
* Iran's nuclear program would only be delayed, NOT eliminated.

Can you "support Israel" while ignoring Israeli public opinion?

Indeed, unquestioned support for an Israeli strike on Iran would damage U.S. interests as well...

* Iran could step up the export of arms to Afghanis fighting U.S. troops.
* Terrorist proxies could attack U.S. ships.
* And Iran could cut off the straits of Hormuz, causing oil prices to skyrocket and world economic collapse.

And for what?

I urge you to call for diplomacy with Iran. Diplomacy is NOT appeasement. I repeat, Diplomacy is NOT appeasement. Diplomacy is in the best interests of the U.S.

* Oil markets could stabilize, meaning less economic uncertainty.
* And, there is greater chance of Iranian cooperation with IAEA nuclear inspectors.

Stop the saber-rattling! War is NOT in the best interests of either the American or Israeli people.

Call on the President to open diplomatic channels to Iran, as Reps. Keith Ellison and Walter Jones have. www.justforeignpolicy.org/node/1157

P.S. ...from Jim Babka, President of DownsizeDC.org.

If you could reduce the size, scope, power, and expense of the federal government by pushing a button, would you do it?

Well, there is such a button, and it's on your mouse.

Everyone thinks change is hard. They're right, it is. But it's becoming a whole lot easier!

In the past, it's been too expensive and too hard to organize -- to stop concentrated interests from milking the State for favors. The incentives have been for government to grow and liberty to recede.

At DownsizeDC.org, we're devoted to changing that. We're the ONLY group working for small, limited government that FOCUSES on the problem of Concentrated Benefits of lobbying special interests vs the Dispersed Costs of the regular taxpayers who pay for all this crony activity -- taxpayers like you.

The bigger and better-equipped DownsizeDC.org becomes, the more YOU power you will have in the national debate.

But the DownsizeDC.org plan won't work if it's something else that's hard to do. Therefore...

If DownsizeDC.org can do just three things -- 1) Raise an average of $1 per month, per subscriber, 2) Use those funds to grow even larger, and 3) Return to repeat step 1 -- then we WILL win.

You CAN reduce the size, scope, power, and expense of the federal government by pushing a button. Simply click this link, and then, make a monthly pledge of $1 or more.
